Call for Legends - LIVE (2016)

Rebooting the popular Call for Legends contest, Shure in 2016 once again offered up-and-coming bands a chance to play at the Montreux Jazz Festival. This time, however, there was a particular emphasis on the live show of the contestants – so there was pressure to perform! Of course, landing a prime spot at one of the most famous music festivals in Europe is a huge deal by itself. But there was even more at stake. Just to keep things interesting, Shure also promised the winning band €5,000 in equipment and a professional video of their performance at Montreux. Call for Legends – Live attracted entries from 746 bands in 35 countries.

Vocal Mastery (2015)

Anyone willing to pick up a microphone can call themselves a singer these days. Many up-and-coming artists can even belt out a great tune or two. But few have truly mastered their instrument – that is, their own voice. Shure decided to change that in 2015 by offering singers from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa a chance to win a vocals masterclass and professional recording session in London. Teaming up with the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) and Metropolis Studios, Shure also threw in €1,000 worth of equipment for five lucky winners.

Play for LA (2014)

Metal heads, blues twangers and funk freaks: Guitarists come in all shapes and sizes. But they all share the same passion for playing. So in 2014 Shure decided to reward the most heavenly sounding axe-wielding musicians from Germany, France, the UK and the Benelux region with a trip to the City of Angeles. We invited amateur guitarists aged 18 and over to compete for a chance to win a trip to Los Angeles and a visit the NAMM music industry tradeshow by posting a video of them playing along to track on Facebook. Of course, there was also plenty of swag to score, including the GLX-D16 Digital Wireless Guitar Pedal System valued at €499. Depending on contestants’ country of residence, they could also wins amazing prizes like a Siggi Braun custom guitar worth €3,500 and an Engl Ironball amp costing €1,090.

Call for Legends (2013)

Being in a band takes dedication and lots of hard work. Many musicians toil away for years waiting for their shot at the big time. So Shure in 2013 decided to give up-and-coming bands a helping hand – and a spot at the Montreux Jazz Festival! Beside the chance to play at one of Europe’s premier music festivals, our Call for Legends contest also offered unsigned bands a professional recording session in London and €3,000 in Shure equipment. More than 240 groups from 31 countries answered the call by uploading one of their songs and a short video introducing themselves.

Snow Patrol Remix Competition (2012)

The beautiful thing about a well-crafted song is how it holds up to new interpretation. A good remix highlights good songwriting, so everyone at Shure was excited when the UK band Snow Patrol agreed to let their track Fallen Empires be used for Europe-wide competition in 2012. Our call to budding remix masters and DJs garnered more than 600 entries. The creative contestants sent in a highly diverse selection of musical genres: From lush orchestral arrangements and stripped-back acoustic interpretations to hard rock and techno versions. The winner took home Shure equipment of his choosing worth €1,500. The second and third place winners received €1,000 and €500 in gear respectively.

Drum Mastery (2011)

Let’s be honest, drummers don’t always get the glory they deserve. But where would the world’s greatest bands be without someone to lock in the beat? So Shure put out a call for Europe’s best drummers back in the fall of 2011. The idea was to gather unsung rhythm gods from across the continent for a drum battle royal in Reykjavik, Iceland. The winner took home a €5,000-voucher for Shure equipment and a set of cymbals from Paiste.
